Ans. The narrator started the conversation by asking the girl what her destination was. 

[মেয়েটির গন্তব্যস্থল কোথায় এই কথা জানতে চেয়ে বর্ণনাকারী কথাবার্তা শুরু করেছিলেন।]

Ans. The girl was startled because she was completely blind and could feel the narrator's presence in the compartment.
